Reset Your Microsoft 365 Password
If you know your current password and want to change it, or you forgot it and your account is set up for self-service reset, you can often fix this yourself. Here is how.
Change a password you already know
- Go to office.com and sign in.
- Select your initials or photo in the top right, then choose View account.
- Select Password.
- Enter your current password, then your new password twice, and save.
Reset a password you forgot
- Go to office.com and select Sign in.
- Enter your work email, then select Forgot my password (or Can't access your account).
- Follow the prompts to verify your identity by text, call, or the Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Create a new password and sign in.
Self-service reset only works if your account was set up for it and you have a verification method on file. If you set up MFA, you already have one.
Pick a strong password
- Make it long. A passphrase of several words is stronger and easier to remember than a short, complicated one.
- Do not reuse a password from another site.
- Never share it with anyone, including coworkers.
