Keeping Software Updated and Patched

Keeping Software Updated and Patched

Most break-ins do not use some exotic new trick. They walk through a hole that a software update already fixed. Keeping systems current is one of the highest-value, lowest-cost things you can do.

Why updates matter

When a vendor finds a security flaw, they release a patch. Attackers read those same announcements and rush to exploit anyone who has not applied the fix yet. In one study, 60% of breaches in 2019 involved a vulnerability that had a patch available but not installed. The longer a system goes unpatched, the wider the window you leave open.

Turn on automatic updates

Turn on automatic updates for your operating systems, browsers, and applications wherever you can. For servers and business-critical systems, patches should be tested and rolled out on a schedule so an update never breaks something you depend on. That is work we manage for you.

Retire software you no longer use or that is unsupported

Software that the vendor no longer supports stops getting security fixes, so every new flaw stays open. The same goes for programs installed by default that nobody uses. Fewer programs mean fewer holes. We can review what is running across your business and remove what you do not need.

How we help

We track patches, security advisories, and threat bulletins, then apply updates across your fleet on a managed schedule. You get the protection without having to chase every notification yourself.
